Lunch with a Willet

Near the Marina, I found a lone Willet feeding during low tide. I spent 20 minutes there and it overcame any initial fear and proceeded to feed around me. At the Palace of Fine Arts a large Cooper's Hawk sent the pigeons into panicked swirls as it gained altitude and headed downtown. In addition to the Sutro Baths Red-tails, there is a regular Red-tailed Hawk pair at Crissy Field. They were active in the morning but had moved toward the Presidio by noon. Fog swept over the city by 5pm leaving only the bay and Oakland hills in sunlight.
Landing in stride.

Stepping stones. (click for greater detail)

Gliding in toward shore.
